What local government did, 7–13 September

Holly Springs' Development Review Committee took the region's largest private project on 9 September: a development plan for a 608,850-square-foot Genentech office, manufacturing and warehouse campus on 102 acres at 4001 Friendship Road. The town had signed a $700 million economic development agreement with Genentech three weeks earlier.

Chatham County Schools got the number that explains the rest of its year on 8 September. Planning firm OE told the board more than 10,000 homes are still in the pipeline countywide, most of them waiting on sewer capacity upgrades in Pittsboro and Siler City due to finish in 2027.

Orange County ran nine meetings in three days, and one of them started a sequence worth following. Commissioners opened a series of work sessions on 9 September answering their own questions about the Land Use Plan 2050 update, beginning with the plan's factual base. Its Affordable Housing Advisory Board planned a community meeting for 14 October at the RENA Community Center in the Rogers Road neighborhood. The Board of Equalization and Review sat on 9 and 10 September, hearing twelve commercial and vacant-parcel appeals, including a Walmart-owned parcel on Hampton Pointe Boulevard and three Wendy's sites.

Two smaller items connect to threads that ran all year. Cary's Zoning Board of Adjustment heard Triangle Fellowship Church's request to put a religious assembly use in an office condominium at 401 Cascade Pointe Lane. And Cary's council spent a work session on 11 September on whether to seek proposals for a dedicated cricket facility at Mills Park, alongside an update on the town's artificial intelligence and data governance policy.

35 boards met across 15 governments, with 280 agenda items on file.
