Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
After a long discussion covering liability, parking, land use protections and what obligations the town would take on, the council voted unanimously to direct staff to issue a request for proposals for a cricket facility at Mills Park, with the goal of keeping the town's cost at or near zero. Councilmember Carissa Kohn-Johnson said cricket facilities are the top request she hears from District D residents, and Sarika Bansal said the sport is especially important to the Indian American community and to women players who lack dedicated practice space. Councilmember Lori Bush pressed for the RFP to spell out maintenance, parking, and staffing obligations up front so the council isn't caught off guard once proposals come in, and Robinson noted the field is already being used informally for cricket on what was originally a baseball site. Staff estimated the process could take three to six months. The town's Chief Information Officer briefed the council on AI and data governance work; Mayor Pro Tem Jennifer Bryson Robinson suggested staff refer to it as "data and AI" rather than "AI and data" since AI depends on data, and Bush said data governance across the town's many separate systems, once estimated at over 100 and now roughly tripled, will be the hardest part of the work. No closed session was held, and the meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m., 35 minutes after it began.
How the votes went
One vote, unanimous 7-0: a motion by Sarika Bansal, seconded by Carissa Kohn-Johnson, directing staff to pursue a request for proposals for a cricket facility at the Mills Park site.
