What was decided

  1. Approved IIIApproval of the meeting minutes; May 12, 2025 Approved unanimously

Read from the agenda's recorded outcomes. Where the board published minutes, those are the record — this is a pointer to them.

What's on this agenda

Fuquay-Varina's parks advisory board heard on 8 September 2025 that fall youth sports registration reached 4,490, up about seven percent, and that the town now runs the largest youth sports program in Wake County, 71 percent bigger than the second largest. Soccer alone drew 1,903 players.

Two capital projects have stalled. Bids for lights on the Banks Road baseball field came back well over budget, so that work is on hold until early 2026, and restroom construction at both Willow Lakes Park and Banks Road Park is on hold. The board took no votes beyond approving its May minutes and adjourned in 39 minutes.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Most of the meeting was staff reporting on capacity. Programs at the Hilltop Needmore community center are running close to full: the sketching class is full, golf outings at 100 percent, fall trips at 94 percent, meet-ups at 93 percent and the percussion class at 90. The teen council has 124 members, seven executive positions, and two members elected to the state executive board. Staff added badminton, track-out and teacher workday camps, and ran the center's first racquetball tournament with 14 entrants.

On projects, the Willow Lakes Park parking lot was due to open within two weeks and the Action Park lot, adding 80 to 90 spaces, was expected out to bid within 60 days. Library Park concepts have gone to the town board and out for public comment before returning for a recommendation. Looking ahead, staff described a feasibility study for a Terrible Creek greenway running from Highway 401 into downtown, and a master plan for a 17-acre Willow Springs park the town holds on a 40-year lease from the county, with a request for qualifications about to go out. Nobody spoke at public comment.
