What local government did, 10–16 August

Chatham County Schools made the week's most consequential personnel decision on 11 August. The board extended Superintendent Anthony Jackson's contract by a year, through June 2029, after Jackson asked it to waive the 5 percent performance bonus his contract allowed him, citing state and federal budget pressure.

Wake County took up the week's largest pot of money the same day, reviewing a joint process with Raleigh for awarding $23.5 million in hospitality tax capital grants. Durham County's consent agenda carried a $1,500,000 amendment for the Durham Affordable Housing Loan Fund. Pittsboro's board handled two more voluntary annexation petitions from Chatham Park Investors, a permanent closing of part of Suttles Road, and a consent agenda reorganizing several staff positions.

Apex ran the heaviest land-use night of the week on 12 August with nine public hearings, covering transportation plan amendments and a rezoning for the Ashburn PUD, plus an annexation and rezoning tied to them. Knightdale's Land Use Review Board moved the Terravita and Hopkins Farm master plans toward a joint hearing. Wake Forest's Planning Board took public comment on rezoning 14.12 acres at 0 Star Road for 2-over-2 condominiums, a case that ran into November.

Orange County held four meetings on housing and aging in two days: the Advisory Board on Aging elected new officers after its chair resigned, the Affordable Housing Advisory Board reviewed the Long Time Homeowners Tax Assistance Program, the Commission for the Environment worked through 18 applications for its award program, and the Board of Equalization and Review sat twice more, on 12 and 13 August, hearing ten appeals between them.

25 boards met across 13 governments, with 157 agenda items on file.
