What's on this agenda

Cary's Historic Preservation Commission met Aug. 13 to review its draft 2025 Annual Report and continue discussion on the town-owned Nancy Jones House. It was Chair Cortney Bonvillain's final meeting after six years of service.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The commission approved its draft 2025 Annual Report as amended, adding language on its review of the Nancy Jones House structural report and a new standing maintenance-review process. Members agreed to make Nancy Jones House updates a standing monthly agenda item rather than forming a separate committee, and to explore a Certified Local Government grant, a site visit, and better public-facing signage for the property.

Staff reported the town has nominated the Ivey-Ellington House restoration for an Anthemion Award, that the town council designated the Braswell House a local historic landmark, and that public tours of the Ivey-Ellington House have begun Wednesdays. The Council Liaison said interviews are underway to fill the commission's vacant seat. The meeting closed with recognition of Bonvillain's departure; she said she will stay involved through the Friends of the Page-Walker board.

How the votes went

The agenda and the July 9 minutes were adopted without objection, as was an addendum to the May 14 minutes. The 2025 Annual Report was approved as amended by a roll-call vote with no recorded opposition.
