What local government did, 6–12 July

Wake County's commissioners committed the largest sum of the week on 7 July, approving an authorizing resolution for a Series 2025 installment financing agreement of up to $703.6 million for school construction. The hearing came first and the vote was unanimous. Major renovations at Brentwood Elementary are among the projects it covers. Nothing else in the region this week was within two orders of magnitude of it.

The week's argument was in Orange County. Thirteen speakers came to the commissioners' 8 July business meeting on the county's 2025 property revaluation, most of them from historically Black neighborhoods in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. The county's Board of Equalization and Review met the next afternoon and heard twelve more valuation appeals, including three units at one Chapel Hill address and two Carl Durham Road properties owned by the same appellant. Those two meetings are the start of a process that ran nearly every week for the rest of the year.

Most of the rest of the week was advisory boards doing preparatory work. Wake County's Public Safety Committee took briefings on EMS, the nurse navigation program, the fire services long-range plan and Project Lifesaver. Orange County's Planning Board ordinance committee went over two staff-initiated text amendments on impervious surfaces and watershed protection. Cary's Environmental Advisory Board heard about the Open Space Plan, and its Human Relations, Inclusion and Diversity board debriefed Pride in the Park and took an update on translating public safety information into more languages.

Five meetings this week published nothing a reader can check, including three Cary advisory boards and Holly Springs' Board of Adjustment. Orange County's Economic Development Advisory Board cancelled.

13 boards met across 5 governments, with 103 agenda items on file.
