What's on this agenda

Orange County's Advisory Board on Aging reviewed the county manager's recommended 2025-26 budget on 13 May 2025 and the third-quarter reports on year three of the Master Aging Plan. The manager is recommending that the takeaway lunch programme end, with funding for July and August so participants can be told.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The budget news was mixed. The department's requests for required trainings and language access are in the recommended budget. Its request for $58,000 for respite services came back at $40,000. State Health Insurance Information Program funding is at risk at both state and federal level, and staff had no official notice yet on Older Americans Act money beyond a press release from the federal secretary saying it should be in place. The takeaway lunch programme is recommended for discontinuation with two months of transition funding.

On the Master Aging Plan, the housing reports were the substantive part. The 2025 senior housing guide is with a designer for release this summer. Staff are in contact with DHIC about livable design in Maddry Meadows, the affordable senior housing planned across from the Seymour Center. A student analysing county-wide data on gentrification and land banking finished a quarter of work in Q3, and the town holds a funding agreement with the Northside Neighborhood Initiative for its land bank. The board also heard that Graceful Living assisted living in Carrboro has stopped accepting Medicaid.

The board recommended two reappointments and asked the commissioners to make a special accommodation for a third full term for its Senior Tar Heel Legislature delegate. The Fit Lot is waiting on a final town permit before its opening.
