As Cary’s service area and operational demands grow, the existing facility has struggled to accommodate long-term space and service needs. In February 2024, the Utilities Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Division entered a 7-year lease at 158 Towerview Court to secure warehouse and office space necessary to maintain service levels and ensure up to six months of smart meter inventory to mitigate supply chain risks. Consent agenda Health and human servicesSpeaker : Lisa Glover, Town Attorney’s Office Executive Summary: Since 2021, North Carolina and other states have negotiated over $50 billion in settlements from opioid distributors, pharmacies, and other entities. Cary has, to date, participated in the settlements through a statewide Memorandum of Agreement that directs Cary’s share of the settlement funds to Wake and Chatham counties to address the opioid epidemic. A new settlement has been negotiated with six regional distributors and dispensers of opioids, called the Remnant Defendants’ Settlement Agreement. This set tlement is not subject to the statewide Memorandum of Agreement, and Cary must decide whether to join the settlement. Rec…

If created, an additional property tax could be levied in the Municipal Service District to be used to provide services, facilities, or functions in addition to or to a greater extent than provided in the rest of Cary. Budget action Budget and appropriationsSpeaker : Margaret Moore, Budget Executive Summary: As the lead planning agency for the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), Cary provides budget and financial support to CAMPO and includes CAMPO’s budget in Cary’s annual budget ordinance. CAMPO has identified the need for additional funding for dues and memberships following the adoption of the FY 2026 budget. Because CAMPO’s budget is incorporated into Cary’s budget ordinance, all amendments must be approved by the Cary Town Council. Recommendation : That Council amend the FY 2026 CAMPO budget by reallocating $5,000 from Contracted Services to Dues and Memberships.

Each year, Cary invites organizations working in these areas to apply for funding. Award recommendations are made based on alignment with Cary housing goals and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) National Objectives.
