Read from the agenda's recorded outcomes. Where the board published minutes, those are the record — this is a pointer to them.

What's on this agenda

The Orange County Parks and Recreation Council heard consultants set out four possible priority trail connections for the county trails plan on 2 April 2025, and planned the community vision workshops for May. It also re-elected its chair and vice chair and reviewed a capital plan that puts county money into schools and defers park projects.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The consultants' four candidate connections are Chapel Hill to Hillsborough, the west-to-east Mountains-to-Sea Trail route, Little River Regional Park to Cedar Grove Park, and Eno River State Park to the future Northeast District Park. Asked whether all four would be built, staff said the aim at this stage is to document them as possible corridors and then set criteria for deciding which to pursue; the Mountains-to-Sea route is partly built and part of a state connection, so it ranks. One member said feasibility would drive her ranking, and asked for public land and open space to be shown on the maps.

The May workshops will run as open houses with arrival activities and three stations: ranking corridor priorities, exploring connections, and a vision statement exercise. Staff planned one weekday and one weekend date, with a website comment option where a venue limits remote participation. The consultants return to the council in June with what they heard.

On the capital plan presented to the commissioners the night before, staff said county money goes mostly to schools and many park projects are deferred, though planning for a new Central Recreation Center will have to start within a few years. The council also heard that the disc golf course at Blackwood Farm Park is under review again to reconcile the design with bird habitat, that the skills course at Little River Regional Park opens once the agreement with Triangle off-road cyclists is signed, and that new tennis and pickleball courts at Fairview Park and the Perry Hills mini-park should open in June.

How the votes went

Three votes, all carried without opposition: the March meeting summary, and the election of the chair and vice chair.
