Chatham County Schools spent 2026 on how fast the district is growing and who pays for it. A January retreat and a March growth session both turned on enrollment projections and Chatham Park's build-out. They also weighed what charter schools take from district enrollment and money. Behind it: a new elementary school at North Village, a modular pod at Margaret B. Pollard Middle School, and three gymnasium replacements.
In April the board urged the General Assembly to pass a state budget. It also opposed changes to county property tax authority, its main source of local money. It elected a superintendent the same month and swore in Dr. Kelly Batten in July.
