What's on this agenda

Fuquay-Varina's town board annexed 24.5 acres at 8514 Purfoy Road on 14 July 2025 and set August hearings on five more annexation petitions. It also agreed to spend up to 1.2 million dollars on a vacant parcel at 0 Ellis Street, and signed a 40-year agreement letting Wake County run emergency medical services out of part of Fire Station 4.

The board authorized its attorney, jointly with Holly Springs, to begin condemnation proceedings for utility easements along the Sanford waterline conveyance project. One commissioner was recused from that item.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Everything passed unanimously. The Purfoy Road annexation drew nobody in favor or against at its public hearing and no board discussion, and the board adopted the ordinance 5-0. The consent agenda carried in one motion, with the Sanford waterline condemnation pulled out first so a commissioner could be recused; that item then passed 4-0.

The town manager's report ran long. Fuquay-Varina added 7.3 miles of town streets last fiscal year, bringing maintained mileage to 183.75. Staff are working toward an interbasin transfer certificate for future water purchases, a process he said takes eight to ten years. The town is still issuing the balance of 20 million dollars in general obligation transportation bonds. Federal Highway Administration money has come through for the Alston Ridge to Bass Lake Park connection, with construction due to start in October and run twelve to eighteen months. Staff have also met with a state representative, the DMV and Wake County schools about relocating the DMV office, possibly into the media center at the former Fuquay-Varina Middle School, which he described as an early conversation. A commissioner raised inconsistent speed limits on Hilltop Needmore Road; the manager said the road is under state jurisdiction.

How the votes went

Every vote was unanimous. The Purfoy Road annexation ordinance, the June minutes, consent items 8B through 8R, and the Southland Preserves preliminary plat each passed 5-0. The Sanford waterline condemnation resolution was removed from consent, a commissioner was recused 4-0, and the item then passed 4-0.
