What's on this agenda

A presentation on Wake County's 50-year water plan turned into a complaint about the county on 16 September 2025. A commissioner with more than ten years on the Fuquay-Varina board said he has never seen the county meaningfully support the town's water infrastructure, and noted the county denied the town's attempt to extend its planning jurisdiction east, which is where many contaminated wells sit.

The board also voted to issue 10 million dollars of voter-approved transportation bonds, ordered a building at 110 Fayetteville Street demolished, and awarded a 167,789.60 dollar contract for accessibility improvements at Fuquay Avenue and Raleigh Street. Four members were present and every vote was 4-0.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The county's water resources manager described the Wake One Water Plan as collaborative rather than regulatory, said the county's own authority runs only to groundwater and private wells, and confirmed no funding has been set aside to implement it. The county commissioners are due to endorse the final plan in early 2026. The mayor argued the county should be pushing residents onto municipal water rather than wells, pointing to town infrastructure already along Ten Ten Road that could serve septic properties across it. The town manager said the county contributes nothing financially and that the town has paid through grants, rate increases, developer contributions and fees. Asked about regional work, the county pointed to the Triangle Water Partnership covering Orange, Chatham, Wake and Durham, and a 50-year regional supply plan in development.

The accessibility contract produced a smaller but pointed exchange. The engineering director said construction starts within three weeks and runs four to five months, weather permitting, since thermoplastic cannot be laid in the cold. Asked what difference federal funding would have made, he said the project would have taken several years. The mayor treated that as the argument for paying for it locally. Two residents spoke, one about a stalled construction site on his street where the town has fined the contractor repeatedly and removed rotten trusses, the other announcing a leadership class project to install community boards at the town's five most-visited parks.

How the votes went

Every vote was 4-0 with four members present: the September 2 minutes, the full consent agenda, the accessibility contract award, closed session and adjournment. Nothing was removed from consent and there were no public hearings.

From the published minutes.

Who spoke

2 members of the public spoke.

  1. A resident of Longfellow Street raised the construction quality at two houses on his street. Staff replied that the contractor has been fined repeatedly, the rotten trusses removed and the second story largely taken down, and that the town can require a completion schedule.
  2. A participant in the town's leadership program announced the class project: community boards installed at the five most-visited parks in Fuquay-Varina.

Two speakers, neither on an agenda item. One pressed the board on an unfinished construction site on his street; the other announced a leadership class community project.

Read from the records the government published after the meeting. Members of the public are private residents and are not named or indexed.
