What's on this agenda
Orange County's Commission for the Environment decided to write its own State of the Environment report this year and, on 13 January 2025, brought in four people who had worked on earlier editions to ask how it is done. It also ranked three applicants for membership.
Summarized from the published agenda. Read the agenda itself before acting on it.
Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
The guests were two former county staff and two former commission members. They described their involvement with previous reports, answered members' questions and suggested subjects worth covering.
The commission ranked its three applicants and agreed to invite them to the next meeting to gauge their interest before recommending any of them to the county commissioners. A member will contact another member about whether she intends to stay on after recent absences.
On Carrboro's lawsuit against Duke Energy, members agreed that individual letters are fine but the commission would not write collectively. Members were told of a public hearing on UNC's cogeneration plant on 16 January at Chapel Hill Town Hall, and of a 100-tree giveaway in early March.
How the votes went
Three motions carried without opposition: the December summary, ranking the applicants, and adjournment.
From the published minutes.
