Regular meeting Tax rate and revaluation

What's on this agenda

Three property tax appeals scheduled before the Board of Equalization and Review at West Campus, the first two with the owner expected to attend. Fifteen further quarter-hour slots on the agenda were left empty.

Summarized from the published agenda. Read the agenda itself before acting on it.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Three appeals in 39 minutes, all resolved on the county's number. The board opened short-handed: with the chair absent, one regular member called the meeting to order and moved that an alternate take the chair for the day, which passed without objection. A second procedural point followed. One member recused himself from the second appeal because he knew the owner personally, so that case was heard and decided by the other two. On the merits: a property assessed at $90,000 was left unchanged against an owner's opinion of $40,000; a property assessed at $556,700 was reduced to $462,500, the county's own revised figure, against an owner's opinion of $450,000; and a property assessed at $243,700 was set at $249,600, which is higher than the original assessment and was the county's corrected value, against an owner's opinion of $123,000.

How the votes went

Three decisions, each on a motion and a second, none opposed. One member recused himself from the second appeal and the remaining two decided it. A separate motion seating an alternate as chair for the day passed with no objections.
