Cary's Historic Preservation Commission works through its draft historic marker program. The draft has planning staff take applications once a year, from January 1 to September 1, for subjects inside town limits or the extraterritorial jurisdiction, with the commission as the approving body. This session covers the application and evaluation criteria. Marker design and placement are left for a later meeting.

The commission ran the meeting as a work session on its historic marker program, splitting into two groups to go through the draft policy's application and evaluation criteria. Marker design and placement were held back for a later meeting, and staff will compile the feedback into a revised draft. Members also discussed which subjects to put forward for the state's historic marker program and agreed to send staff their preferences.

On the Nancy Jones House, staff reported only that a site visit has been rescheduled for early January and that the facilities department has nothing new. Staff reported the Page-Walker Hotel's Victorian Christmas drew more than 450 guests on December 7, that the Ivey Ellington house received the Anthemion Award at the council's November 20 meeting, and that work on Historic Preservation Month begins in January. The Page-Walker elevator repair was due to start the following week. Eight members attended.
