What's on this agenda

Fuquay-Varina's commissioners carry $1,397,647 forward from last year's budget into this one, the largest item on an otherwise light Tuesday agenda. Budget amendment BA-27-05 reappropriates money already encumbered on June 30 so the town can pay vendors it has committed to. Street resurfacing accounts for $1,131,517 of it, out of Powell Bill funds; the rest is $164,409 in unfinished professional and contracted services, $57,762 in maintenance and repairs, and $43,959 in supplies not yet delivered.

Nothing is set for a public hearing and nothing was tabled from the last meeting. The board also recognizes $12,918 in fire department insurance proceeds, approves permits for Fuquay-Varina Ghost Tours in October, and hears that a staff member finished the North Carolina Justice Academy leadership certificate. Seven town events over the next ten days are on the agenda as announcements. The board closes in session at the end.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Sixteen people spoke during public comment at Fuquay-Varina's 8 September meeting, on subjects that were not on the agenda for a vote. Six addressed the pending rezoning of 417 and 419 Raleigh Street, eight the no-parking ordinance in the North Lakes subdivision, and two the town's Flock license plate reader cameras. Commissioner Adcock later said he did not regret the North Lakes ordinance but asked staff to look for ways to ease its effect on residents, and said he was open to a board discussion of the cameras.

The board's business was routine and passed 5-0: a budget amendment carrying unfinished 2026 obligations into this year, permits for October ghost tours downtown, and $12,918 in insurance money for repairs to a fire rescue truck. In the manager's report, Commissioner Adcock pressed staff on the 165 fiber encroachment permits filed this year and on damage to other utility lines. The town attorney said state law leaves the town little authority over broadband providers. The board went into closed session for legal advice and returned with nothing to report. The minutes were adopted on 22 September.

How the votes went

Every recorded motion passed 5-0: the 18 August minutes (Vorren, seconded by Gardner), the consent agenda of items 8A to 8C (Haynes, seconded by Smith), the closed session under the attorney-client exception, the return to open session and adjournment.

From the published minutes.
