What's on this agenda

Cary's Public Art Advisory Board approves its annual report covering the year's public art reviews on capital and private development projects, its biennial Creative Placemaking Award, and recognition of long-time public art volunteers.

Summarized from the published agenda. Read the agenda itself before acting on it.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The board approved its agenda and July 16 minutes unanimously, with four members absent. No members of the public spoke. The board then unanimously approved its annual report for October 2024 through September 2025, which recorded about 212 volunteer hours from board members. The report highlighted public art review for the Crabtree Creek Greenway pedestrian tunnel at Weston Parkway, the Black Creek Greenway pedestrian bridge, Higgins Greenway Phases III and IV, and the completed McCrimmon Parkway and Carpenter Fire Station neighborhood parks. The board also reviewed private development art placements, including a sculpture at Glenaire Retirement Community, a completed mural at 160 E. Cedar Street, a mural at the CMC Hotels Hive Hotel, the completed Alta Ivy sculpture, and a proposal for three cow sculptures at Kildaire Farm. The board's Creative Placemaking Award, given in partnership with the Cary Chamber of Commerce, was presented in May, and the board recognized three lifetime Public Art Champions: Ralph Ashworth, Susan Alexander, and Ann Goodnight. The report noted the board is monitoring how public art can be incorporated into Cary's Affordable Housing plan and its planned Bus Rapid Transit stations, and recommended updating the Public Art Master Plan as part of the town's PRCR System Plan.

How the votes went

The board voted unanimously three times: to adopt the agenda, to approve the July 16 minutes, and to approve the PAAB annual report.
