Fuquay-Varina's board approved two rezonings without opposition on Feb. 2. It rezoned 8.51 acres at 5800 Johnson Pond Road from Residential Agricultural to Residential Medium Density Conditional, for an application from Blake Massengill of Massengill Design Build, 5-0. No one spoke for or against. The board also rezoned 1.442 acres at 2228 N. Main Street from Office & Institutional to General Commercial Conditional, 5-0. Wayne Mauldin, of applicant Mauldin-Watkins Surveying, spoke in favor; no one spoke against.

Larry Smith took the oath of office as commissioner, returning to the board after five years there and ten years as Fuquay-Varina's police chief. The board read a Black History Month proclamation, recognized the Chamber of Commerce and Fire Division Chief Justin Riewestahl, and passed its consent agenda 5-0: a flag-lot subdivision on Chambers Road and a sewer capital equipment budget amendment. Nobody signed up for public comment. The board also voted 5-0 to move its second February meeting from Feb. 23 back to Feb. 17, after staff found a scheduling conflict on Feb. 23 instead.

The board approved the Jan. 20 minutes 4-0, before Smith took his oath. It then approved both rezonings 5-0: 5800 Johnson Pond Road (Ordinance N-26-05) and 2228 N. Main Street (Ordinance N-26-06). The consent agenda -- the Chambers Road subdivision, the sewer budget amendment, and the FVDA Friends special event permit -- passed 5-0. The board also voted 5-0 to move its second February meeting from Feb. 23 to Feb. 17, and adjourned on a 5-0 vote.

Nobody signed up for the general public comment period. At the rezoning hearings, no one spoke on the Johnson Pond Road request; Wayne Mauldin, of applicant Mauldin-Watkins Surveying, spoke in favor of the N. Main Street request, and no one spoke against either.
