Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The board, sitting as Chair Leon Meyers with members Saru Salvi and Richal Vanhook, heard all eleven scheduled appeals; none of the six listed alternates sat. Two owners appeared in person and the rest were decided on the written record. The board accepted three late Present Use Value applications, two for forestry and one for agriculture, all filed after the January 31 deadline. It continued one appeal, over a claimed electrical right-of-way, an aging well and septic system, and stream buffers, after the county representative told the board it found no evidence of the easements on the county's GIS map or the recorded plat.

On the seven remaining valuation appeals, the board reduced every assessment from the county's original figure, in six cases adopting the county's own revised value and in one going beyond the county's proposal to apply a larger flood-related land reduction. The largest cut in dollars was $41,800, on the flood-damaged property; the largest by percentage was 15.4%, on a different property whose bathroom count and lot influences the county corrected. Every recorded vote passed 3-0 with no dissent.

How the votes went

All eleven motions carried 3-0: three motions accepting late Present Use Value applications, one motion continuing an appeal, and seven motions setting a valuation (six adopting the county's recommended figure, one adjusting a flood-related land reduction beyond what the county proposed). No motion drew a recorded no vote.

From the published minutes.
