What's on this agenda

Orange County's Board of Equalization and Review is set to hear nine 2025 revaluation appeals, from a lakefront home on S. Lakeshore Drive to a 57.66-acre tract on Mt. Willing Road and a condo unit on West Franklin Street. Each owner is contesting the county's assessed value, and the board weighs evidence from both sides on every parcel.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Nine appeals, seven decided and two continued. The board went below the county's own recommendation once, on Myrna Schwartz's house on South Lakeshore Drive, which she contested with an independent appraisal: assessed at $1,979,100, the county offered $1,766,900 and the board set $1,593,900. On the other six it took the county's figure, or held the assessment where the county proposed no change.

The largest reduction in proportion was on two lots on East Franklin Street, cut from $175,000 to $87,500 on the strength of what they sold for in 2025. The largest in money was John Kim's house on Owls Wood Lane, down $594,100 to $2,255,400 on neighborhood comparables. Maury Klein's Quinn Court appeal and Thomas Mills's floodplain argument on Legato Lane were both continued.
