What's on this agenda

The Orange County Board of Elections opens its 2025-2027 term at a special meeting: members take the oath of office and elect a secretary, then adopt the director of elections' duties. The board also considers an early voting schedule for the October 7 Durham municipal primary and a resolution moving Eno precinct voters to the Patterson precinct for that primary and the November 4 Durham election.

The agenda also carries the director's year-to-date budget and voter registration reports and adoption of the board's 2025 meeting schedule.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Clerk of Superior Court Mark Kleinschmidt administered the oath of office to the newly organized board, which then elected Elvira Mebane secretary and adopted the director of elections' duties, both by unanimous vote. No one addressed the board during public comment, and members approved the May 20 minutes as submitted.

Director Rachel Raper reported sufficient funds in the year-to-date budget and 109,934 registered voters, up 172 since May 20. Under a statewide Registration Repair Project, 1,637 Orange County voters may be missing a driver's license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number from their registration; the review is due by August 15. The board adopted an early voting schedule for the October 7 Durham municipal primary, a resolution moving Eno precinct voters to the Patterson precinct for that primary and the November 4 Durham election, and its 2025 meeting schedule, all unanimously.

How the votes went

The board acted unanimously on every recorded vote: electing a secretary, adopting the director's duties, approving the May 20 minutes, adopting the Durham primary early voting schedule, transferring Eno precinct voters to Patterson, and adopting the 2025 meeting schedule.
