What's on this agenda

Orange County's Board of Elections handles routine business tied to two elections at once: certifying absentee and early-voting results for the City of Durham's October 7 municipal primary, and preparing for the county's own November 4 municipal election. The board considers buffer zone rules for early voting sites, precinct assistant appointments, and a report on voter registration repairs.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The board approved buffer zone regulations for early voting sites and a slate of precinct assistant appointments for the November 4 municipal election, both unanimously. It tabulated and certified absentee and early-voting results for the Durham municipal primary, to be released at 7:30 p.m. after polls closed, and designated two members to observe the closing of early voting.

The director reported 110,768 registered voters countywide, up 307 since early September, and said 426 of 1,211 voters on the county's Registration Repair Project list have fixed their registrations. Only one absentee ballot had come in so far for the November 4 election; the state board recommended holding off on processing more until after the Durham primary is canvassed. No members of the public spoke during the comment period.

How the votes went

The board cast three unanimous votes: buffer zone rules for early voting sites, Election Day precinct assistant appointments for the November 4 election, and the slate of early voting chief judges and judges. It also tabulated and certified the Durham primary's absentee and early-voting results, with no roll-call vote recorded for that step.
