The board elected Mary Beth Miller vice chair. Laura Streitfeld of Preserve Rural Orange urged the board to publicize its draft farmland preservation plan. She also pushed for a stronger board role in the county's land use plan update, pointing to a proposal to rezone a large farm tract on NC 54 at White Cross for a new subdivision.

The board recommended denying a Voluntary Agricultural District application for 2.36 acres on Erwin Road, near Mt. Moriah Road, because only about three-quarters of an acre was in active cultivation, short of the program's one-acre minimum. The recommendation goes to the Board of County Commissioners, which has final say over VAD enrollments. Members encouraged the owners to reapply once they meet the threshold. Staff also described a pending $14,000 grant application to the NC Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund, to be matched by a $2,000 gift from the Orange County Farm Bureau, toward updating the board's 2006 study on the cost of servicing farmland versus residential development.
