Budget Work Session

Orange County · Board of County Commissioners
Tuesday, May 26, 2026

Work session Budget and appropriationsPublic facilities

What's on this agenda

Three hours on the rest of the county: support services, general government and community services. Asset management, community relations, finance, human resources, information technology; then the commissioners' own budget, elections, the county attorney and manager, register of deeds and tax administration; then animal services, cooperative extension, the environment and parks department, and economic development including the Article 46 sales tax fund.

No public comment is taken at a work session. The county publishes a detail worth knowing: anyone who needs transport to a board meeting can book a demand response ride from county public transport by noon the day before, free.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Two of these carried live arguments into the year. Tax administration is the department a working group has been examining since the 2025 revaluation, and the board decided in July how it should report - jointly to the board and the manager, with the board conducting the annual evaluation. The board of elections asked for a coordinator post the manager's budget left out, on the grounds that the legislature has shortened the time to process results and ballots must now be cured within three days.

The Article 46 sales tax fund is the county's economic development money, and how much of it is diverted to the general fund to cover related costs was a point of discussion the previous year.
