SUMMARY:Orange County: Board of Adjustment
DESCRIPTION:Board of Adjustment\n\nOne case: A-3-25\, a request to modify the special use permit for a cricket facility on Old Greensboro Road and Holly Creek Lane\, granted in 2020. The owners ask to change the conditions on seasonal play and to revise the site plan to add accessory structures for maintenance and on-site services\; everything else in the original permit stays. This is a quasi-judicial hearing\, which means the board decides only on competent\, material and substantial evidence\, and only people who establish legal standing may put evidence in front of it.\n\nAgenda: https://www.orangecountync.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_06112025-2284\nWatch: https://www.orangecountync.gov/953/Board-of-County-Commissioners-BOCC\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/3635

SUMMARY:Orange County: Business Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Board of County Commissioners\n\nOrange County's commissioners opened their August 25 meeting with the oath of office for Commissioner Rani Dasi\, and directed on the consent agenda that the crisis diversion facility under construction be named for Jamezetta Bedford. The formal resolution honoring Bedford\, who died on June 21\, came back to the board a week later.\n\nThe one item of regular business was how the county advertises its land for sale. Until now it did the legal minimum\, a notice in The Herald Sun. The new process adds a listing on the MLS\, county social media\, the community newsletter\, a sign at the property and the asset management webpage\, with the winning bidder covering the costs: $200 to $3\,500 for legal ads\, $500 for the MLS listing and $1\,200 for an appraisal. The tax collector reported a 99.33 percent current-year collection rate for FY 2025-26. Consent also carried the sale of a 1.24-acre placeholder lot on Mollie Court\, four bus shelters for Hillsborough\, and dissolution of the broadband task force whose work produced the county's $10 million fiber contract with Lumos.\n\nAgenda: https://www.orangecountync.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08252026-2654\nWatch: https://orangecountync.cablecast.tv/show/65?site=1\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/1972

SUMMARY:Orange County: HRC Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Human Relations Commission\n\nThe commission's monthly meeting\, 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Revere Road and on Teams\, with every item timed to the minute. It advises the county commissioners on human relations and social justice\, and its job as the agenda describes it is promoting goodwill across communities\, identifying concerns about discrimination and civil inequality\, and supporting education and outreach.\n\nThe business: a climate action grant presentation\, a county update from the Office of Civil Rights and Civic Life\, a decision on a commemorative marker at Blackwood Farms\, and a review and vote on applications to fill membership vacancies. Subcommittees report on outreach\, a housing series and the Blackwood Farms dedication.\n\nAgenda: https://www.orangecountync.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_08252026-2655\nWatch: https://www.orangecountync.gov/953/Board-of-County-Commissioners-BOCC\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/2182

SUMMARY:Orange County: Business Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Board of County Commissioners\n\nThe one public hearing is the consequential item. A county-initiated text amendment would take by-right subdivisions of fewer than 21 lots out of Planning Board and commissioner review entirely and hand them to staff\, on the reasoning that state law requires the county to approve plats meeting its own criteria anyway. It also drops the separate concept plan application\, widens the expedited track to parcels between two and five acres\, and deletes three subdivision categories that have never been used. The Planning Board recommended approval unanimously with one change: doubling the mailing notice before a neighborhood meeting from 14 days to 30.\n\nThe board also fills the Register of Deeds vacancy left by a resignation in mid-August\, and honors Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford\, who died in June\, by naming the crisis diversion facility now under construction after her. Consent carries $350\,000 in tourism marketing contracts\, a $37\,783 opioid settlement award\, and ratification of a $123\,500 inspections contract the county manager had already signed to keep construction moving.\n\nAgenda: https://www.orangecountync.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_09012026-2661\nWatch: https://orangecountync.cablecast.tv/show/66?site=1\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/2327

SUMMARY:Orange County: Work Session
DESCRIPTION:Board of County Commissioners\n\nOrange County commissioners meet Thursday for the twice-yearly progress report on the countywide strategic plan\, and for a first look at a draft Strategic Communications and Civic Partnership Plan. The rest of the evening is appointments to thirteen advisory boards.\n\nThe communications plan would set a county-wide framework for how Orange County talks to residents and staff\, treating communication as a core public service rather than a support function. Its stated aims are clearer and more consistent messaging\, wider access\, stronger internal capacity\, and durable relationships with communities.\n\nAgenda: https://www.orangecountync.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_09102026-2664\nWatch: https://orangecountync.cablecast.tv/show/67?site=1\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/2918

SUMMARY:Orange County: Staff Working Group September 16\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:OCPT Staff Working Group\n\nOrange County's transit tax district staff working group votes September 16 on $113\,000 of second-quarter changes to the FY27 transit work program\, then sends them out for public comment. The largest piece is a $33\,000 Orange share of a $100\,000 alternatives analysis for bus lanes on NC 54 between US 15-501 and Interstate 40. GoTriangle wants the study done now because NCDOT is already running environmental work on that stretch\, and the corridor is part of the Chapel Hill to Triangle Town Center project that scored highest of any regional transit project in SPOT 8.0. Durham's transit plan would pay the other 67 percent.\n\nThe rest is operating money. GoTriangle asks for five more weekday revenue hours on Route 800\, which runs between UNC Hospitals and the Regional Transit Center by way of Southpoint and RTP. Boardings there rose 29 percent over the past year and round trips routinely run past 120 minutes\, putting the route behind schedule. GoTriangle also wants $32\,438 more for the Transit Assistance Program\, which paid for more than 400\,000 fully subsidized trips in FY25 against an $82\,500 budget. Orange County asks for $60\,000 for marketing and public engagement ahead of the transit plan update\, and $20\,000 more for the working group's own administrator.\n\nAgenda: https://www.orangecountync.gov/AgendaCenter/ViewFile/Agenda/_09162026-2667\nWatch: https://www.orangecountync.gov/953/Board-of-County-Commissioners-BOCC\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/3824
